Biography
Caitlin Holt Siropaides, D.O., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in palliative care to enhance patients’ quality of life, whether their condition is malignant (cancer) or nonmalignant (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS] or end-stage pulmonary and heart diseases).
Dr. Siropaides earned her medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a residency in internal medicine and received advanced training in hospice and palliative medicine through a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2016.
Dr. Siropaides is the Program Director for UT Southwestern’s VitalTalk Advanced Communication Training Program, and she has national certification as a VitalTalk Senior Faculty member, which enables her to teach the communications methodology across the country.
She also serves as Course Director for UT Southwestern’s Internal Medicine Residency Communication Training Program and Clinician Lead for UT Southwestern’s Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment Program in Palliative Care.
Dr. Siropaides serves on several committees, including as founder of the University of Texas Communication Training Committee and as a member of UT Southwestern’s Ambulatory Provider Training Workgroup, the von Hippel-Lindau Alliance Clinical Care Center Committee, and the Simulation Center Faculty Development Committee. Additionally, she is a collaborating physician providing supportive and palliative care in UT Southwestern’s Kidney Cancer Program.
She is a member of several professional associations, including the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Association of Specialty Professors (member of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine), and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Siropaides’ primary area of academic interest is providing and studying communication skill development and training for clinicians at all levels (medical students, residents, fellows, and practicing providers), as well as institutional program development to support such initiatives. She has delivered myriad lectures and trainings and published numerous academic articles.
Among many other honors, she received UT Southwestern’s 2021–2022 Office of Medical Education/Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT) Fellowship Award.
Personal Note
Dr. Siropaides’ interests outside of medicine include spending time with friends and family including her husband and children, attending live music, and reading.
