Biography

Emily Marquez, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in palliative care.

Dr. Marquez earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School and completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Northwestern University, serving as Chief Resident. She then received advanced training in hospice and palliative medicine through a fellowship at UT Southwestern.

Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.

Dr. Marquez is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Her clinical interests include the impact of function on quality of life in patients with serious illness, as well as cancer rehabilitation. She has given lectures, participated in panel discussions, and published abstracts and articles related to her areas of expertise.

As both a student and physician, Dr. Marquez has championed diversity, ethics, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. She has received several awards, including the Sarah Baskin Resident and Fellow Research Day Trailblazer Award and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Award, both bestowed by the Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. Marquez enjoys running, cooking, and spending time with her husband and their three dogs and cat.
