Biography

Gary Daniel Skrivanek, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in neurosurgical anesthesiology. 

Dr. Skrivanek earned his medical degree at the UT Southwestern, where he also completed a residency in anesthesiology, receiving advanced training particularly in neuroanesthesia and cardiac anesthesia.

Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Skrivanek joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1989. 

Dr. Skrivanek’s clinical practice includes the management of cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), intracranial tumors, spine surgery, and skull base surgery. He is an expert at managing difficult airways and postoperative nausea and vomiting, and he has a special interest in the education of residents and medical students. He developed and served as Co-Director of the Department of Anesthesiology’s Difficult Airway Simulation Course.

Dr. Skrivanek is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Dallas County Anesthesiology Society, the Dallas County Medical Society, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Wilderness Medical Society.
