Biography

John Hanna, M.D., is an Assistant Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine and a Clinical Informatics Fellow in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in clinical informatics, infectious diseases, and HIV.

Dr. Hanna earned his medical degree at Assiut University in Egypt. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Rochester General Hospital and gained advanced training in infectious diseases through a fellowship at UT Southwestern.

Board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, Dr. Hanna joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

He is a member of the American Medical Informatics Association, the HIV Medicine Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Texas Infectious Diseases Society.

Dr. Hanna is involved in several research studies, including risk factors of COVID-19 and outcomes among people with HIV; health care-associated infections during the COVID-19 pandemic; use of social media in health care for health promotion and tackling disinformation; predictors of murine typhus in North Texas; and evaluating clinical decision support solutions. He has published articles in peer-reviewed journals related to his areas of interest.

Personal Note

When he’s not working, Dr. Hanna plays the piano and enjoys recreational volleyball and racket sports.
