The American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology selected UT Southwestern’s Mark Drazner, M.D., M.Sc., as the recipient of the 2018 Laennec Master Clinician Award. Presented Nov. 10 at the annual AHA Scientific Sessions, the prestigious award recognizes outstanding contributions to teaching and patient care in the realm of cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Drazner is the Clinical Chief of Cardiology and Medical Director of the LVAD and Cardiac Transplantation Program at UT Southwestern, where he holds the James M. Wooten Chair in Cardiology. He is a widely recognized national leader in the care of patients with heart failure. His excellence as a teacher has been previously recognized through multiple awards, including the inaugural L. David Hillis Award for Excellence in Teaching bestowed by the cardiology fellowship program at UT Southwestern.

“I am truly humbled to have been chosen as recipient of the 2018 Laennec Master Clinician Award,” Dr. Drazner says. “I am grateful to the numerous outstanding physician role models I have had over the years, many of whom were at UT Southwestern, for teaching me how to practice medicine and making me the clinician I am today. I also must thank my patients. They let me enter their lives at their most vulnerable moments and give back to me far more than I could ever hope to give to them.”
