Biography

Angela Guzzetta, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in bariatric surgery and surgical simulation education and practices at the Veterans Administration hospital in Dallas.

Dr. Guzzetta earned her medical degree at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio before completing a residency in general surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and a fellowship in minimally invasive gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery at UT Southwestern.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019.

Dr. Guzzetta is the Surgical Simulation Director and Associate Program Director for General Surgery at UT Southwestern. In addition, she is Chief of Bariatric Surgery for the Dallas VA, Director of the Dallas VA Bariatric Surgery Multi-Disciplinary Committee, and Founder and President of the national VA Bariatric Surgeons Society.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Guzzetta is also a member of the Association for Surgical Education and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

She is an author of The General Surgery Intern Handbook, as well as numerous presentations and academic articles related to her areas of expertise. She serves as a reviewer for Medicine.
