Biography

Caroline Smith, M.D., joined UT Southwestern as an Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology and Oncology in 2023. Dr. Smith earned her undergraduate degree in Human Biology with a minor in American Studies at Stanford University. She completed her medical degree at UT Southwestern and her residency training in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center in the Boston Combined Residency Program (BCRP). Ultimately, she returned to UT Southwestern / Children’s Medical Center Dallas for her fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.  

Dr. Smith’s clinical and research interests include leukemia and lymphoma, in particular, studying the role of novel targeted cancer therapeutics in patients with relapsed or refractory leukemia. Dr. Smith conducts her research in the Alec Zhang Lab under the co-mentorship of Dr. Samuel John, studying the role of the tumor microenvironment and a novel CAR-T cell therapy in infant leukemia and other leukemias with KMT2A rearrangements.
