Biography

Dwight Oliver, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in translational research in oncology, and design, development, and validation of clinical molecular diagnostic assays for oncology and infectious diseases.

Dr. Oliver earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Medicine and completed a residency in pathology at the UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School, where he served as Chief Resident. He gained advanced training through a fellowship in surgical pathology at UT Southwestern and a fellowship in molecular diagnostics and molecular pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He also holds a Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia.

Certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology and molecular genetic pathology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2008.

Dr. Oliver serves as Medical Director of UT Southwestern’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory and Director of the Molecular Genetic Pathology Fellowship Program. He is a member of the Association for Molecular Pathology, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the College of American Pathologists.

He has delivered numerous presentations, contributed to the books Basic Concepts of Molecular Pathology and Molecular Pathology of Lung Diseases, and published many peer-reviewed academic articles related to his areas of expertise. He is a section editor for Journal of Molecular Pathology and Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, as well as a reviewer for the College of American Pathologists National Meeting Abstract Review Committee.
