Biography

Elena Lucas, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in cytopathology and gynecologic pathology.

Dr. Lucas earned her medical degree at the Stavropol State Medical Institute and completed a residency in laboratory medicine at Central Regional Children's Hospital in Stavropol, Russia. She performed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at UT Southwestern, where she was Chief Resident in her final year and where she then gained advanced training through a fellowship in cytopathology.

Certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2011.

Among her other roles, Dr. Lucas is Medical Director of Surgical Pathology and Immunohistochemistry at Parkland Health. She is Rotation Director of the surgical pathology bootcamp and hot-seat rotations within the UT Southwestern Pathology Residency Program.

Her research interests include immuno-oncology biomarkers; cervical, endometrial, and ovarian carcinoma; and endometrial precancers. She contributed to the book Diagnosing Non-Small Cell Carcinoma in Small Biopsy and Cytology and has published numerous academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

She is a member of the College of American Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Society of Cytopathology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, and the International Society of Gynecological Pathologists.

Outside of work, Dr. Lucas enjoys reading and travel.
