Gaurav Khatri, M.D.

Biography

Gaurav Khatri, M.D., is a Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Chief of its Abdominal Imaging Division . His clinical interests include pelvic floor dysfunction; inflammatory bowel disease; and cancers of the liver, pancreas, and rectum. 

Dr. Khatri holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Birmingham–Southern College. He earned his medical degree at University of Alabama School of Medicine and performed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He then received advanced training in abdominal imaging and magnetic resonance imaging through a fellowship program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital Fienberg School of Medicine in Chicago. 

Investigating Pelvic Floor Disorders

Dr. Khatri focuses his research on magnetic resonance (MR) and ultrasound imaging of pelvic floor dysfunction and mesh. He implemented the MR defecography and pelvic floor mesh and sling imaging programs at UT Southwestern, which facilitate close collaboration with urologists and urogynecologists both clinically and through research.

He and his collaborators have presented their research findings at multiple scientific conferences throughout the world. He is a site co-investigator on a National Institutes of Health-sponsored Pelvic Floor Disorders Network institutional grant, and is a co-investigator for a multi-institutional hepatocellular carcinoma consortium grant funded by the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas.

Dr. Khatri is the lead radiologist for UT Southwestern's multidisciplinary pancreatic cancer prevention clinic and plays an instrumental role as a liaison between the Department of Radiology and other physicians in the clinic. He has championed new MRI imaging protocols for patients at high risk for developing pancreatic cancer, and implemented a novel reporting system for pancreatic cystic lesions to allow early identification of patients. He is a frequently called upon radiologist for the multidisciplinary hepatocellular carcinoma team, and is often consulted on challenging cases by referring physicians.

Dr. Khatri has been invited to lecture on topics related to pancreas imaging and imaging of pelvic floor at national and international venues.

A Career Marked by Service

Dr. Khatri is an active member of many committees within UT Southwestern, including the MRI Protocol Development Committee, the Radiology Residency Curriculum Committee, and the Pelvic Floor Disorders Program Planning Committee. He is also Co-Director of the Body MRI Fellowship program.

He is a member of several national and international professional organizations, including the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society of Computed Body Tomography & Magnetic Resonance, the American College of Radiology, the Texas Radiological Society, and the Society of Abdominal Radiology, which named him a Fellow in 2018. 

Robust Editorial and Publishing Contributions

In addition to co-authoring original research articles for peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Khatri also serves as a reviewer for Neurology and Urodynamics, JCAT Case of the Quarter, Abdominal Imaging, Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Journal, and European Radiology.
