Biography

Irina Gasanova, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. 

Dr. Gasanova earned her medical degree at Azerbaijan Medical University and her Ph.D. in acute postoperative pain management at Russian State Medical University. She completed a residency in anesthesiology at SUNY Upstate Medical University. 

Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2007. 

Dr. Gasanova is the Medical Director of Perioperative Services and the Chief of Anesthesiology Services at UT Southwestern and Parkland Health & Hospital System. 

She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, for which she serves on the Committee on Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine; the International Anesthesia Research Society, for which she serves on the abstract reviewer committee; the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists; and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. 

In addition, she serves on the quality improvement committee at UT Southwestern and the patient care review committee for Parkland Health & Hospital System. 

Dr. Gasanova has delivered scores of invited lectures across the globe and published numerous academic articles related to pain management. 

In 2009, she received the Dennis F. Landers M.D., Ph.D. Teaching Award given by residents. In 2017, she earned the Chairman’s Recognition Award from UT Southwestern. 

Personal Note

Dr. Gasanova speaks fluent English and Russian, as well as limited Turkish. Her personal interests include traveling, reading, and playing tennis.
