Biography

Jaffer Odeh, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in cardiovascular critical care before and after cardiac and thoracic surgery as well as providing anesthesia for complex abdominal oncology surgery and noncardiac surgery in patients with cardiac disease or pulmonary hypertension.

Dr. Odeh earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he served as Chief Resident. He also received advanced training through fellowships in anesthesiology critical care medicine and liver transplant anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in critical care medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2012.

Dr. Odeh is the Chief of Operations for General Anesthesiology at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. He also serves as the Assistant Quality Officer for Health System Affairs, Chair of the Blood Utilization Review Committee, and Chair of the OR Black Box Socialization Committee at UT Southwestern.

He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, for which he serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. In addition, Dr. Odeh is on the board of the Political Action Committee for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists and is the Vice President of Arcangeles USA, a nonprofit organization created to improve the lives of vulnerable populations through education, sports, advocacy, and empowerment.

In 2021, Dr. Odeh received Best Doctor recognition from D Magazine.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Odeh enjoys baking, cooking, smoking meats over a wood fire, and taking photographs.
