Biography

Dr. Jamaal Benjamin, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of the Vascular & Interventional Radiology Division. Dr. Benjamin holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Morehouse College in Atlanta. Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Benjamin joined the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at UT Southwestern, where he earned both his medical degree as well as his doctoral degree in Molecular Microbiology. He then completed his residency in diagnostic radiology as well as an advanced fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. While at UPenn, Dr. Benjamin also performed a post-doctoral fellowship in cancer biology in the Penn Imaged Guided Interventions (PIGI) lab. He returned to UT Southwestern as an Assistant Professor of Radiology in August of 2022.

Dr. Benjamin’s investigations have resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications as well as grant funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH), Radiological Society of North America, and the Society of Interventional Radiology. He also serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Roentgenology and World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery.

His research interests include cancer biology, specifically hepatocellular carcinoma response to liver-directed interventions, autophagy perturbations in oncologic disease, and lymphatic imaging and interventions. His investigations have resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications as well as grant funding from the National Institute of Health (NIH), Radiological Society of North America, and the Society of Interventional Radiology.
