Biography

Joy Chen, M.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. 

Dr. Chen earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern, where she also completed a residency in anesthesiology and pain management and a fellowship in critical care medicine. 

Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in critical care medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015. Dr. Chen practices anesthesiology at Parkland Memorial Hospital and critical care medicine at both William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center. 

She serves on the blood utilization review committee at Parkland and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Chen has delivered several national and regional presentations and is actively involved in research on campus. She is a resident advocate in her role as Jenkins House co-leader.
