Biography

Marium Afzal, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Afzal is originally from Houston, Texas, and earned her medical degree at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, before receiving her family medicine training at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Prior to joining the UT Southwestern faculty, she worked in urgent care.

She is passionate about the fields of family medicine and primary care, particularly because they allow her to develop relationships with her patients and their families. She believes in individualized care and treating the person as a whole and not just the disease.

Dr. Afzal specializes in preventive care, women’s health, and pediatrics. She has trained in and performs several outpatient procedures, including skin biopsies, cyst removals, incision and drainage of abscesses, and musculoskeletal injections.

Personal Note

When not working, Dr. Afzal enjoys playing tennis and basketball and traveling the world with her husband. One of her biggest travel accomplishments is overcoming her fear of heights and climbing to the top of Angel’s Landing at Zion National Park.
