Biography

Mary P. Chang, M.D., M.P.H., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She serves as Director of Global Health Education in the Office of Global Health and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Population and Data Sciences. She specializes in international emergency medicine. 

Dr. Chang earned her medical degree at Texas A&M Health Science Center. She completed a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where she served as Vice Chief of Global Health and as a Yale/Stanford Johnson & Johnson Global Health Scholar in Monrovia, Liberia. She then completed a fellowship in international emergency medicine and public health at Johns Hopkins University, where she also earned a master’s degree in public health. 

Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Chang joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015. 

Dr. Chang’s clinical and research interests include refugee/migrant health care, medical education, developing research and health care systems in developing nations, and humanitarian assistance. She has worked on gender-based violence screening in Lebanon and Kenya, migrant health in Thailand, medical education in Liberia, disaster evaluation in the Philippines, and research development in Fiji.

Dr. Chang is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, and the Texas College of Emergency Physicians.
