Munes Fares, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in pediatric cardiology and has subspecialty expertise in advanced cardiac imaging and fetal cardiology.

Dr. Fares earned his medical degree at Damascus University in Syria. After completing his residency in pediatrics at Marshall University, he received advanced training through a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Case Western Reserve University and through a fellowship in advanced pediatric cardiac imaging at UT Southwestern and Children's Medical Center Dallas.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, Dr. Fares joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.

A pediatric and fetal cardiologist and part of the cardiac MRI group at UT Southwestern, Dr. Fares’ clinical interests include cardiac imaging techniques in patients of all ages, from the fetus to adults who have congenital heart disease. He has particular interest in noninvasive imaging, such as echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, fetal echocardiography, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, 3D imaging, and 3D printing.

His research interest is in advancing new techniques for fetal cardiac imaging using fetal cardiac MRI. He is also invested in developing new methods of myocardial perfusion and stress testing using cardiac MRI.

Dr. Fares has written numerous academic articles and delivers lectures and presentations worldwide. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography, the American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the Syrian American Medical Society.
