Biography
Nenna Nwazota, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in acute and chronic pain management.
Dr. Nwazota earned her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine, where she also completed a residency in anesthesiology. She gained advanced training in pain medicine through a fellowship at Duke University Hospital.
Certified in anesthesiology and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology, she first joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019, during which time she co-founded the Acute Pain Service at the VA North Texas Healthcare System. She then served as Director of the Acute Pain Service at JPS Hospital in Fort Worth from 2021 until she returned to UT Southwestern in 2023.
In addition to her roles at UTSW, Dr. Nenna is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Daughters of the Diaspora, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating sustainable sexual health education and increasing reproductive health literacy among adolescents throughout the African diaspora.
Her publications include a contribution to the book A Case Approach to Perioperative Drug-Drug Interactions and the articles “Peripheral Nerve Injections,” “Device Review: Pulsante sphenopalatine ganglion microstimulator,” and “Outcomes in Pregnant Women with Acute Aortic Dissection.”

When she’s not at work, Dr. Nwazota enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
