Biography

Purva Gopal, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in gastrointestinal and liver pathology.

Dr. Gopal earned her medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. After completing residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Louisville Hospital, she gained advanced training in surgical pathology through a fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center. She completed additional fellowship training in gastrointestinal pathology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Certified by the American Board of Pathology, Dr. Gopal joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2013.

Dr. Gopal is the director of the Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology Fellowship Program and serves as a key pathology collaborator with the liver cancer and rectal cancer research programs at UT Southwestern.

Dr. Gopal is a prolific researcher and has published numerous articles, abstracts, and case reports in peer-reviewed publications related to her areas of clinical interest.

When she’s not at work, Dr. Gopal enjoys spending time with her family, spinning, attending concerts, drawing, and cooking.
