Biography

Selam Tadesse, M.P.H., RD, CSOWM, LD, is the Lead Registered Dietitian in UT Southwestern's Weight Wellness Program at Texas Health Dallas. She is a board-certified specialist in obesity and weight management and focuses on comprehensive adult obesity care within an interdisciplinary medical team.

Originally from Ethiopia, Ms. Tadesse came to the United States as an international student. Her appreciation for the wholesome foods of her upbringing and her experience adapting to healthy eating in college sparked her interest in nutrition. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics from Texas Woman’s University and a Master of Public Health from the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

Before joining UT Southwestern in 2021, she worked in adult weight management in the private sector, providing individualized counseling and behavior-focused coaching. In her current leadership role, she helps oversee clinical nutrition operations, mentors fellow dietitians, collaborates with physicians and advanced practice providers to enhance patient care, and serves as a preceptor for dietetic interns.

Her professional interests include improving metabolic health, sustainable weight management, and culturally relevant eating patterns that emphasize accessible, nutrient-dense foods. She is committed to compassionate, individualized care and empowering patients to build realistic, long-term healthy habits.
