2021 Leaders in Clinical Excellence
Dr. Sunati Sahoo is the recipient of the 2021 Mentoring Award.
Sunati Sahoo, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in the pathology of breast diseases.
Dr. Sahoo earned her medical degree at Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College in India and completed postgraduate training in pathology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. She performed her residency in pathology at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and received advanced training in breast pathology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, followed by fellowship training in cytopathology at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Certified by the American Board of Pathology in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2011.
Dr. Sahoo leads the breast pathology services at UT Southwestern and is the Director of Surgical Pathology at UTSW’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. She is a former co-director of the UT Southwestern Tissue Repository at the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Her research interests include neoadjuvant systemic therapy in breast carcinoma, prognostic and predictive markers of breast carcinoma, and quality and outcome studies in the management of breast disease. She is a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists and a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
The author of numerous articles, monographs, and case studies, Dr. Sahoo has contributed to several books, including chapters in A Comprehensive Guide to Needle Core Biopsies of the Breast, Dabbs Breast Pathology, and Diseases of the Breast.
In 2021, she received UT Southwestern’s Leaders in Clinical Excellence Mentoring Award.
