Takashi Eguchi, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in robotic surgery for thoracic malignancies, lung function-preserving surgery, complex lung segmentectomy with 3D imaging-based planning, and salvage surgery for lung cancer.

Dr. Eguchi earned his medical degree and a doctoral degree in medical science at Shinshu University in Japan, where he also completed a residency in surgery, a cardiovascular thoracic surgery clinical fellowship, and a thoracic surgery research fellowship. In addition, he gained advanced training through thoracic oncology research and an advanced thoracic surgical oncology fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025.

In addition to his areas of clinical specialization, Dr. Eguchi is passionate about surgical education and training, including nontechnical skills. He is an active translational and clinical researcher; his research interests include the biology and management of lung cancer, specifically the clinicopathological characteristics of spread through air spaces (STAS), the analysis of thoracic surgical anatomy for safety and high-quality procedures, and perioperative risk assessment and management strategies for patients undergoing thoracic surgery.

He has delivered numerous international presentations, published more than 100 academic articles related to his areas of expertise, and contributed to the book Tumors of the Central Nervous System.

Dr. Eguchi is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Surgeons, and is a member of other professional organizations. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several academic journals, including Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Thoracic Oncology, and Lung Cancer.
