Biography

Theodoros Kelesidis, M.D., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in the treatment of infectious diseases, including HIV infection and infections in immunocompromised patients.

Originally from Greece, Dr. Kelesidis earned his medical degree at Athens University Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston and gained advanced training in infectious diseases through a fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he also completed a doctorate in microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics and a master’s degree in clinical and translational research.

Certified in infectious diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

Dr. Kelesidis’ research focuses on infectious diseases, immunology, and cardiometabolic complications of infectious diseases, including HIV infection. His lab integrates both basic and translational research platforms to apply tools from immunology, virology, molecular biology, and medicine to understand the immunopathogenesis of infectious diseases.

He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association, the American Medical Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the International AIDS Society, and he serves as an Associate Editor for the journals Metabolism: Clinical and Experimental and Frontiers in Microbiology.

A frequent national and international lecturer, Dr. Kelesidis has received several awards for his research. He is the author of more than 150 original research papers and numerous book chapters, reports, and reviews.

When he is not at work, Dr. Kelesidis enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.
