Biography

Abhay Divekar, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in congenital heart catheterization and adult congenital heart disease.

Dr. Divekar earned his medical degree at Bombay University in India. He performed his residency in pediatrics at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York and then completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at New York University Medical Center and an advanced fellowship in interventional catheterization and cardiac critical care at CS Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in adult congenital heart disease and by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatric cardiology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021.

Dr. Divekar is a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, for whom he serves as Co-Chair of the fall Fellows Course. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Pediatric and Congenital Interventional Cardiovascular Society, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

His research focuses on developing clinically relevant animal models. He has presented and published extensively, including contributing to the books Catheter-Based Valve and Aortic Surgery and Indian Academy of Pediatrics Specialty Series on Pediatric Cardiology.
