Biography

Afia Twumasi, M.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pediatric hospital medicine, taking care of acutely ill children and their families.

Dr. Twumasi earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and completed her residency in pediatrics with a concentration in advocacy at Washington University's St. Louis Children’s Hospital, serving as Chief Resident.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.

Dr. Twumasi's interests include advocacy; trainee education; and firearm injury prevention. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Gun Violence Prevention Learning Collaborative for Health Systems, and Hospitals and Mom’s Demand Action – Be SMART.

Personal Note

In her free time, Dr. Twumasi enjoys trying new restaurants, spending time with her husband and dog, reading, dancing, yoga, and traveling.
