Biography
Agnes “Aggie” Ewongwo, M.D., M.P.H., is an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in the treatment of gynecological cancers.
Dr. Ewongwo earned her medical degree and a concurrent master’s degree in public health from the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. She followed this by completing a transitional year at the Tucson Health Medical Education Program and her radiation oncology residency training at Stanford University.
Dr. Ewongwo joined UT Southwestern’s Department of Radiation Oncology, where she cares for patients with a broad range of gynecologic malignancies, including cervical, endometrial, vulvar, vaginal, and metastatic ovarian cancers, as well as recurrent gynecologic tumors. She is trained in advanced radiation techniques such as stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR), adaptive MR-guided radiotherapy, and high–dose-rate (HDR) gynecologic brachytherapy.
She brings a strong background in quality improvement, global health, and innovation in radiation oncology workflows, with a particular interest in expanding access to high-quality gynecologic radiotherapy in resource-limited settings and building radiotherapy capacity through education and training. Her research interests span global health capacity building, quality improvement, health equity and cancer disparity research, and the integration of ctDNA and targeted biomarkers into clinical decision-making for radiation oncology.
“My philosophy is to make every patient feel truly seen, heard, and cared for,” she says. “I am committed to building trust and a strong therapeutic alliance, creating a space where patients feel safe, respected, and empowered to make the decisions that are best for them and their families.”
Dr. Ewongwo is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), and the American Radium Society (ARS).
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ewongwo loves traveling and collecting mementos from her trips around the world. She stays active through weightlifting and is an enthusiastic sports fan who enjoys basketball, American football, soccer, and tennis.
