Biography

Alva Roché-Green, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in adult and pediatric palliative care with a special interest in perinatal palliative care and advance care planning. Her passion is patient-centered care and understanding what matters most to patients, especially those living with chronic and life-limiting illnesses.

Dr. Roché-Green earned her medical degree at Louisiana State University. She completed a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and gained advanced training in palliative medicine through a fellowship at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.

Board certified in pediatrics, internal medicine, and hospice and palliative medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.

Previously, she served as the Division Chief of Palliative Care and Geriatric Medicine for the Inova Health System in Falls Church, Virginia. In that role, she led a systemwide initiative to increase understanding and honoring of patients’ wishes throughout their health care journey, and to develop an Epic-based tool for early identification of patients who could benefit from palliative care resources.

Dr. Roché-Green is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Physicians, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

She has delivered numerous presentations, co-authored the book Supportive Care Strategies Optimizing Transplant Care, contributed to several other books, and published peer-reviewed articles related to her areas of expertise.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. Roché-Green loves spending time with her family and going to sporting events, and she has recently started gardening.
