Biography
Athra Kaviani, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pediatrics and newborn care.
Dr. Kaviani earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern, where she also completed her residency in pediatrics, serving as Chief Resident. In addition, she holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Kaviani first served on the UT Southwestern faculty from 2016 to 2020. After serving at the University of Chicago School of Medicine and NorthShore University Health System in Chicago, Illinois, she returned to UT Southwestern in 2022.
Dr. Kaviani is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Her research interests include neonatal abstinence syndrome, quality improvement, public health outcomes, access to health care, and medical education. She has delivered numerous presentations related to her areas of expertise.
