Biography
Carlos P. Cardenas, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He serves as Associate Program Director for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship, Co-Director of Simulation for the Internal Medicine Residency program, and Director of the Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Clinic. His clinical interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and general pulmonary medicine.
Dr. Cardenas earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed a residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern, where he also served as Chief Resident, and then obtained fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Cardenas has delivered numerous presentations related to his areas of expertise and has a strong interest in medical education and simulation training.
