Christina Herrera, M.D.

Biography

Christina Herrera, M.D., M.S.C.I., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology within the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in high-risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis, placenta accreta spectrum disorders, preeclampsia, and fetal growth restriction.

Dr. Herrera earned her medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from the UT Southwestern Medical Center O'Donnell School of Public Health. She completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center before joining as faculty in 2020. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Dr. Herrera is the Placenta Accreta Spectrum Team Lead at Parkland Health. Her research interests include understanding the placenta in healthy and diseased states, placenta accreta spectrum disorders, and new applications of imaging and genomic technology in placental function. She has delivered invited lectures, contributed to the book Queenan’s Management of High-Risk Pregnancy, and published numerous academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Herrera enjoys rowing and biking. She is also a wine and food enthusiast and an avid reader.
