Biography

Christina Herrera, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in high-risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis, placenta accreta spectrum disorders, preeclampsia, and fetal growth restriction.

Dr. Herrera earned her medical degree at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at UT Southwestern.

Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020.

Dr. Herrera’s research interests include understanding the placenta in healthy and diseased states, placenta accreta spectrum disorders, and new applications of imaging and genomic technology in placental function. She has delivered invited lectures, contributed to the book Queenan’s Management of High-Risk Pregnancy, and published numerous academic articles related to her areas of expertise.

She serves as the Placenta Accreta Spectrum Team Lead at Parkland Health. She is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Society for Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and its Patient Safety and Quality Committee.

In 2023, Dr. Herrera earned UT Southwestern’s Rising Star Award.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Herrera enjoys playing tennis and hiking. She is also a wine and food enthusiast and an avid reader.
