Biography

Darlene King, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in general adult psychiatry, including women’s mental health, addiction, and trauma.

Dr. King earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern, where she also completed her residency in psychiatry, not only serving as Chief Resident her final year but also founding the Psychiatry Resident Technology Interest Group.

She joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022. In addition to her clinical work at UTSW, Dr. King serves as the Behavioral Health Physician Informaticist for Parkland Health, where she explores the intersection of psychiatry and technology.

Dr. King is a member of the American Medical Informatics Association and serves on the App Advisor Panel for the American Psychiatric Association (APA), where she helps evaluate applications for mobile mental health. She is also a member of APA’s Mental Health Information Technology and Telepsychiatry Committee, where she contributes to different mental health technology initiatives.

She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals related to her areas of interest. Her publications include an article in Journal of Affective Disorders on the relationship between the inflammatory biomarker galectin-3 and depression symptom severity.

In 2022, Dr. King was the winner of the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s Start-Up Challenge.

Personal Note

Outside of work, Dr. King enjoys bicycling, swimming, crafts, and reading.
