Biography

David E. Fixler, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in congenital heart disease.

Dr. Fixler earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago. He completed a residency in pediatrics at Northwestern University, where he also received advanced training through a fellowship in pediatric cardiology. He completed a research fellowship at the University of California Cardiovascular Research Institute. He also holds a master’s degree in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1971.

Dr. Fixler’s clinical interests include blood pressure issues and heart murmurs in children. His research interests include the epidemiology of congenital heart disease and the environmental epidemiology of exposures associated with birth defects of the heart. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles and book chapters, and he has delivered lectures and other presentations all over the world.

Dr. Fixler is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Transplantation, the International Society and Federation of Cardiology, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, and the Society for Pediatric Research.

Dr. Fixler holds the Dr. Fred S. Brooksaler Professorship in Pediatrics.
