Biography

Elijah Katz, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in global health and point-of-care ultrasound.

Dr. Katz earned his medical degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He then completed a residency in emergency medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he also received advanced training in global health and point-of-care ultrasound through a fellowship.

Certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2022.

Prior to starting his position at UT Southwestern, Dr. Katz worked with Doctors Without Borders, completing clinical missions in South Sudan and subsequently serving as Point-of-Care Ultrasound Advisor, coordinating and implementing clinical point-of-care ultrasound training programs in multiple countries and contexts.

His clinical interests also include clinical ultrasound education and quality control, as well as adoption of portable ultrasound technology in resource-limited areas. A frequent presenter at international medical conferences, Dr. Katz has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals related to his areas of interest.
