Enas Kandil, M.D., M.Sc., FIPP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Kandil earned her medical degree at Cairo University in Egypt. She completed a residency in anesthesiology at Case Western Reserve University and a fellowship in pain management at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She also earned a Master of Clinical Science at UT Southwestern in 2015.
Certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in anesthesia and in pain management, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2004.
Dr. Kandil leads two quality improvement projects related to opioid safety initiatives, one at UT Southwestern and one at Parkland Health & Hospital System, with the goal of addressing and regulating opioid-prescribing practices and ensuring hospital compliance.
She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Anesthesia and Clinical Research and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, and the Society of Obstetrics Anesthesia and Perinatology.
She has completed several externally funded research projects, delivered regional and national presentations, and published numerous academic articles.
Dr. Kandil’s research interests include exploring the overlapping mechanisms in the etiology and non-opioid treatments of neuropathic pain, which she attempts to elucidate through her collaboration with several basic science collaborators at UT Southwestern and UT Dallas. Her work focuses on in-silico analysis and identifying FDA-approved drugs that can be repurposed for the treatment of neuropathic pain, which she conducts on her basic science pain models.
