Biography

Ernesto Llano, M.D., is an instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in inflammatory bowel disease and colon cancer.

Dr. Llano earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center and received advanced training through a gastroenterology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Llano joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2024.

He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Llano’s primary research interest is cachexia, or wasting syndrome, particularly in the context of patients with cancer. He studies the molecular mechanisms through which cancers drive cachexia as a member of the Rodney Infante Lab. Dr. Llano’s research has resulted in multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and has been presented at scientific conferences.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Llano enjoys spending time with his family, camping, and competing in triathlons.
