Biography

Hussna Abunafeesa, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Hematology and Oncology. She is a member of the Gastrointestinal Disease Oriented Team, with a primary clinical focus on gastrointestinal cancers. Her clinical interests include pancreatic, colon, rectal, neuroendocrine, small intestinal, gastric, esophageal, and appendiceal cancers, as well as head and neck cancers. She is also committed to bridging health disparities in oncology and serving as a resource for clinical trials within the community.

Dr. Abunafeesa earned her medical degree at the Ahfad University for Women in Sudan, where she served as president of her medical student association. She received internal medicine residency training at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, followed by fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the Henry Ford Cancer Institute.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Abunafeesa joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

Dr. Abunafeesa's work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented her findings at conferences.

Dr. Abunafeesa is active in several professional societies, including the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society of Hematology.
