Biography

Hussna E. Abunafeesa, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in hematology and oncology and has a special interest in gastrointestinal oncology.

After earning her medical degree at Ahfad University for Women in Sudan, where she served as president of her medical student association, Dr. Abunafeesa completed a residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She gained advanced training in hematology and oncology through a fellowship at the Henry Ford Cancer Institute.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2023.

Dr. Abunafeesa is a member of various professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Society of Hematology.

Her clinical interests include bridging health disparities in oncology and being a resource for clinical trials within the community. She has published several articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals related to her areas of interest.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Abunafeesa enjoys motherhood, event planning, and travel with friends and family.
