Biography

John Ibrahim, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in bronchopulmonary dysplasia and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

Dr. Ibrahim earned his medical degree at Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, in Cairo, Egypt. He completed a residency in pediatrics at NYU-Langone Hospital—Long Island and received advanced training through a neonatal-perinatal fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in neonatal-perinatal medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), where he was Director of Quality Improvement and Director of the Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Program for the Division of Newborn Medicine and led the Morbidity and Mortality Committee. He also chaired the Golden Hour Program at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, guiding early stabilization protocols for high-risk neonates.

Dr. Ibrahim has particular clinical interests in the respiratory care of extremely premature neonates and quality improvement. At Children’s Medical Center Dallas, he leads the bronchopulmonary dysplasia and POCUS programs.

He has delivered numerous presentations, contributed to the book Updates on Neonatal Chronic Lung Disease, and published peer-reviewed academic articles related to his areas of expertise.

In 2024, Dr. Ibrahim earned the Pediatric Medicine journal’s Outstanding Author Award. In 2025, he earned the UPMC Jon F. Watchko Fellowship Mentoring Award.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Ibrahim enjoys reading history books, running, and spending time with his family.
