Biography
Joseph Vento, M.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in genitourinary oncology.
Dr. Vento grew up in Austin, Texas. He earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School and completed his internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern. He earned a master’s degree in biomedical informatics at Vanderbilt University while receiving advanced training through a medical oncology fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021 and re-joined in 2024 after completing his fellowship.
Dr. Vento serves as Deputy Oncology Informatics Officer at Parkland Memorial Hospital and is also involved in clinical practice at Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center.
His research interests include clinical informatics, large cancer databases, and renal cell carcinoma. He has delivered poster and oral presentations and published peer-reviewed articles related to his areas of expertise.
In 2020, he earned the John S. Miller Award for Outstanding Senior Resident, awarded annually to one graduating UT Southwestern internal medicine resident for epitomizing humanistic and professional qualities.
Personal Note
When he’s not at work, Dr. Vento enjoys playing tennis, staying fit, traveling, and spending time with his wife and twin sons.
