Biography

Jyoti P. Balani, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in gastrointestinal, liver, and genitourinary pathology, as well as quality improvement and clinical informatics.

Dr. Balani earned her medical degree at Bangalore Medical College in India and completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at UT Southwestern, where she served as Co-Chief Resident. She gained advanced training in surgical pathology and genitourinary pathology through fellowships at UT Southwestern and the University of Pittsburgh, respectively.

Certified by the American Board of Pathology in clinical informatics, anatomic pathology, and clinical pathology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2009.

Among her other roles at UTSW, Dr. Balani is the Associate Medical Director of Clinical Laboratory Services and serves as the Quality Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Informatics Officer in Pathology, as well as the Quality Medical Officer for Clinical Laboratory Services.

She is a member of several professional societies, including the International Society of Urological Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

She has written numerous peer-reviewed publications and abstracts in her areas of expertise.

Personal Note

In her free time, Dr. Balani enjoys listening to music, watching movies, and enjoying nature.
