Biography
Khashayar Sakhaee, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Chief of the Division of Mineral Metabolism at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in metabolic bone disease (osteoporosis, osteomalacia, Paget’s disease of the bone, metabolic bone disorders resulting from chronic kidney disease), magnesium disorders (hypomagnesemia, hypermagnesemia), phosphate disorders (hyperphosphatemia, hypophosphatemia), and calcium disorders (hypercalcemia, hypocalcemia).
Dr. Sakhaee earned his medical degree at Pahlavi University Medical School in Iran, where he also performed a residency in internal medicine. After performing a separate residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, he received advanced training in nephrology through a fellowship at UT Health Science Center at Dallas.
He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1982.
Dr. Sakhaee is Director of the Mineral Metabolism Clinic at Parkland Memorial Hospital and a member of the Ambulatory High-Performance Team for the Parkland Health & Hospital System. At UT Southwestern, he holds the Laura Kim Pak Professorship in Mineral Metabolism Research, and he is an active participant in the Clinical Operations Work Group Meeting, among other roles.
His research interests include uric acid stones, post-renal transplantation hypophosphatemia, and osteoporosis.
An editorial board member of the journal Urolithiasis, Dr. Sakhaee has published countless academic articles and delivered a number of international, national, and regional invited lectures.
He is a member of the National Kidney Foundation, the American Urological Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society, among many other professional organizations.
