Biography

Mathew Stokes, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Neurology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in concussion and its prolonged symptoms, sports neurology, and pediatric headache.

Dr. Stokes earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern, where he also completed a residency in child neurology and a fellowship in pediatric headache medicine focused on sports neurology and concussion.

Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in child neurology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019.

Dr. Stokes is Director of the Neuro-Concussion Clinic at Children’s Health, where he cares for children and adolescents with headache and concussion. He also treats athletes with any neurological condition that prevents them from participating in sports with their peers.

He's a member of the Child Neurology Society and the American Academy of Neurology, and he serves on the Program Evaluation Committee for both the Child Neurology Residency and Headache Medicine Fellowship programs.

Dr. Stokes’ research interests include autonomic dysfunction in concussion as well as epidemiology and long-term outcomes following concussion. He is involved in a number of research projects and has published numerous academic articles.

In 2020, he earned recognition for the Top Science Abstract at the 2020 American Academy of Neurology’s Concussion Virtual Conference.
