Biography

Mirella Mays, M.S.N., APRN, FNP-C, is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who joined the UT Southwestern Medical Center in November 2016. 

Ms. Mays earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing at the University of Texas at Austin in 1990. She earned her Master of Science in nursing and completed the family nurse practitioner program at the University of Texas at Austin in 1998. 

She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.  

For 20 years prior to joining UT Southwestern, she worked for the City of Austin in their primary care clinics and for CommUnityCare Health Centers in Austin. Through that experience, she cared for some of the unhealthiest populations of Austin, enjoying the challenges of managing complicated clients and helping them live healthier lifestyles. From 2012 to 2016 she provided health care to college students at University Health Services at the University of Texas at Austin.

Ms. Mays enjoys working in academic environments like UT Southwestern because it involves constant change and ongoing learning. She also enjoys being part of a collaborating environment, and understands and appreciates how all members of the health care team play integral roles.
