Biography
Nirupama DeSilva, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in pediatric and adolescent gynecology.
Dr. DeSilva earned her medical degree at Albany Medical College and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UT Southwestern. She received advanced training in pediatric and adolescent gynecology through a fellowship at Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine and then served as Director of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma School of Community Medicine.
Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019.
Dr. DeSilva’s research interests include creating methods to enable teens to navigate adolescence as gracefully as possible and promoting systems to decrease risk-taking behaviors. She is the editor of pagwebed.org and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.
She is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, the Telugu Association of North Texas, and the Texas Medical Association.
Dr. DeSilva has been recognized with the America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists award from the Consumers Research Council of America since 2009.
