Biography

Peter Luckett, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in pediatric critical care medicine and pulmonary medicine, in particular the respiratory problems of patients with neuromuscular disorders.

Dr. Luckett earned his medical degree at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where he also completed a residency in pediatrics. He received advanced training in pediatric pulmonology and cellular physiology through separate fellowships at Columbia University Medical Center.

Board certified in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1993.

Dr. Luckett is the Medical Director of the Respiratory Care Department at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. He has served as an attending in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for nearly 30 years and has led a pulmonary neuromuscular clinic for more than 25 years. He serves on the Critical Care Morbidity and Mortality Committee, the Difficult Airway Committee, and the Health Electronic Management Committee.

The site principal investigator on a number of clinical trials, Dr. Luckett has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and the American Lung Association, among other agencies. His research interests include clinical trials in pediatric critical care medicine, near-fatal asthma, and pulmonary medicine.

Dr. Luckett is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a member of the American Association for Respiratory Care, the American Thoracic Society, the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury and Sepsis Investigators Network, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

He has delivered numerous presentations, published a wide range of peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, and reviews, and contributed to the book Neonatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care.

Among his many honors, Dr. Luckett has received the American Lung Association’s Breath of Life Leadership Award.
