Biography

Ramona Rhodes, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in geriatrics, hospice, and palliative medicine.

Dr. Rhodes earned her medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She completed a residency in internal medicine at MetroHealth Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University and gained advanced training through a fellowship in geriatric medicine at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University. She also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in health services research at Brown University, where she received a master’s degree in public health. In addition, she earned a Master of Science in Clinical Science at UT Southwestern.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in geriatric medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2009.

Dr. Rhodes serves as the Deputy Editor and a member of the editorial board for Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and is Section Editor for Ethnogeriatrics and Special Populations. She is a member of the Palliative Care Research Cooperative Group (PCRC) and has served on the PCRC Scientific Review Committee. She is a Fellow and Board Member of the American Geriatrics Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is also a member of the American College of Physicians.

Her research interests include racial and ethnic disparities in older adults, long-term care, and end-of-life care. She has delivered scores of national and regional invited lectures, contributed to the books The Oxford Handbook of Ethics at the End of Life and The 5-Minute Consult Clinical Companion to Women's Health, and published numerous academic articles related to her areas of expertise. She has also served as a research mentor to residents, fellows, medical students, faculty, and Ph.D. candidates.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Rhodes enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, playing with her dogs, raising indoor plants, and going to sporting events.
