Shanup Dalal, M.D.

Biography

Shanup Dalal, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in hospice and palliative medicine, including palliative outpatient procedures.

Dr. Dalal earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School. He served as Chief Resident while completing his internal medicine and pediatrics residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he also gained advanced training through a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine, as well as by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Dalal joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2020. He served as a hospitalist physician at both Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children’s Medical Center Dallas until 2023; following his fellowship training, he transitioned into his current role as a hospice and palliative medicine physician at Parkland.

Dr. Dalal is a member of multiple professional organizations, including the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American College of Physicians.

His research interests include quality improvement projects on the utility of outpatient bedside procedures performed by palliative care providers.

In 2022, Dr. Dalal received Parkland Memorial Hospital’s Hospitalist of the Year Award.

When he’s not at work, Dr. Dalal enjoys taking photographs, playing basketball, and running.
