Biography

Shilpa Shukla, M.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in treating pediatric and adolescent blood disorders and cancer, with a particular expertise in sickle cell disease.

Dr. Shukla earned her medical degree at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal, India. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. She received advanced training through a pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship at Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and pediatric hematology and oncology, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025.

Dr. Shukla is the former chair of the Institutional Review Board and the director of the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program at the Saint Francis Health System in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At UT Southwestern, she continues to lead and collaborate on quality improvement projects to optimize care delivery and address disparities in access to treatment. She is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Dedicated to clinical excellence, Dr. Shukla emphasizes evidence-based, individualized care while maintaining a strong focus on improving quality of life for patients. In addition to her patients with sickle cell disease, she sees pediatric patients with anemia, pancytopenia, and thrombocytopenia. She is also actively involved in resident and fellow education, with a particular interest in teaching the integration of medical expertise with clear communication and strong physician-patient relationships.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Shukla enjoys traveling, hiking, and skiing. She is a proud soccer mom who loves cheering for her children and also finds joy in cooking, creative storytelling, and giving back to her community in meaningful ways.
