Biography

Sonia Parmar, M.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in chronic disease management, preventive medicine, and acute care.

Dr. Parmar earned her medical degree at Atlantic University School of Medicine and completed a three-year residency in family medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford.

Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2026.

As a family medicine physician, Dr. Parmar cares for patients with both chronic and acute conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, COPD, and asthma. She also provides infection screenings, including UTIs and STIs, as well as DoxyPEP and PrEP interventions to high-risk patients.

She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Board of Family Medicine, and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians.

In 2021, she earned the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford’s Resident Teacher Award.

Personal Note

When she’s not at work, Dr. Parmar enjoys spending time with family, cooking and trying different cuisines, traveling, and kayaking.
