Biography

Sunil Balgobin, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and surgical education.

Dr. Balgobin earned his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He completed a residency in Ob/Gyn at Boston Medical Center and a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at UT Southwestern.

He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2006.

Among his other roles at UTSW, Dr. Balgobin is the Associate Director of the Ob/Gyn department’s Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. His clinical practice is in the Parkland Health & Hospital System, where he also oversees and teaches medical students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Balgobin has delivered scores of presentations, contributed chapters to seven books, and published numerous academic articles related to his areas of expertise. In addition, he serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several scholarly journals.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and a member of the American Urogynecologic Society, the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, the International Urogynecological Association, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the Texas Medical Association, and the Dallas County Medical Society.

In 2013, he received the National Outstanding Faculty Award from the ACOG Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
