Biography

Tarek Alsaied, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in pediatric cardiology, including congenital heart disease management, post-Fontan care, and biventricular management.

Dr. Alsaied earned his medical degree at Faculty of Medicine, Damascus University, in Syria. He completed pediatric residencies at the American University of Beirut Medical Center and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. He received advanced training through a pediatric cardiology fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and a cardiac imaging fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Alsaied holds a master’s degree in clinical and translational research from the University of Cincinnati.

Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatric cardiology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2025. He previously served as an Associate Professor at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he was Director of the Fontan Program.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Alsaied serves as a pediatric cardiologist and advanced cardiac imager. He is the Director of the Fontan Management Program and Associate Director of Cross-Sectional Imaging.

He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, for which he serves as Chair of the Publications and Communications Committee. He previously served as Chair of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance’s Pediatric and Congenital CMR Steering Committee.

Dr. Alsaied has delivered numerous presentations worldwide and has published more than 160 peer-reviewed articles in his areas of expertise. In addition, he serves as an Associate Editor for Pediatric Cardiology. He previously served as managing editor of the reference work Pediatric Cardiology: Fetal, Pediatric, and Adult Congenital Heart Diseases.

In 2025, he earned the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Teacher of the Year Award.

Personal Note

When he’s not at work, Dr. Alsaied enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, and swimming.
